Manchester City announce victory in arbitration case against Premier League over sponsorship rules.

The Premier League has reject two sponsorship deals for Manchester City, Etihad Airways and an Abu Dhabi bank, on the grounds that they were link to the club or its owners, which would have breach APT rules.

The panel found parts of the league’s APT rules broke British competition law, however, and were also unlawful because clubs were unable to comment on types of data the league would take into account.

The Premier League’s decision in relation to two City transactions in 2023, with First Abu Dhabi Bank and Etihad Aviation group, were “reach in a procedurally unfair manner” and must be overturn, the panel ruled.

The Associated Party Transactions (APT) rule was first introduce in December 2021 following the takeover of Newcastle United by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. Which led clubs to fear that money could be inject through sponsorship deals to boost revenue.

Man City considered the denial unfair and took the case to the Arbitration Court for a ruling in February. The court has now ruled in favor of the Citizens.

The Citizens claim that similar loans of around £1.5 billion have been made to other Premier League clubs, including Arsenal and Brighton. And they UFABET have therefore disagree with Premier League rules and won out.

However, the case is not relate to Manchester City’s 115-count misappropriation case against them, which the Premier League has charge them with, and a verdict is expect to be issue soon.
